Holiday Festival Of Music

My earliest memories of WLS are from Christmas Eve 1973 or 1974. As a three or four-year old, I distinctly remember listening to a wonderful program that WLS would run from about 3:00 p.m. Xmas Eve afternoon all the way through early Christmas Day.

The typical Top 40 format was suspended and replaced with a variety of classic and contemporary Christmas music, interspersed with vignettes about various Christmas topics (e.g., the origins of the song Silent Night, mistletoe, etc.). It was truly a magical experience listening to that program in the car as the family would drive to Midnight Mass and various family get-togethers.
